The Fall of Sleep

This new book on dreams & dreaming will be of interest to some readers of this blog: Jean-Luc Nancy's The Fall of Sleep - Preview on Google Books - Review at RAINTAXI

As the publisher's description says, "Philosophers have largely ignored sleep, treating it as a useless negativity, mere repose for the body or at best a source for the production of unconscious signs out of the night of the soul." And one of their own reviewers says this: “A truly original examination of the most universally overlooked human experience.” Universally overlooked? One marvels at the ignorance and provincialism of some academics. In any case Nancy is interesting and this book might be of some value - I have not read it.

(Thanks to Silliman's blog for the notice.)
